Arizona Academy of the Performing Arts

The 2010 season is already shaping up to be an exciting one with more than a 20% increase in audition applications this year.  The first audition weekend began with the annual Open House at the Corona del Sol High School auditorium just down the road from the corps training grounds.  Parents, prospective members, and fans all came to hear about the corps plans for the upcoming season.  Audition particpants had the chance to meet the staff and learn more about the expectations of Academy members.

With the increase in participation this year, the corps will be expanding its trainee program to involve more local students who are not quite able to participate in the corps as full-time members.  These trainee members will rehearse in tandem with the corps through the annual Memorial Day Concert and have the opportunity to work on Academy techniques while continuing to grow as performers.

Membership is already being designated in some sections after this weekend.  There is a general consensus throughout the staff that a much deeper pool of talented and experienced students are attedning this year's auditions.  More than half of the 72 available brass positions are being designated today.  Most of the remaining brass and percussion positions should be designated by the end of the second audition weekend on December 12-13.  Color guard auditions begin on this same weekend and continue in January during their second camp on january 16-17.
