The Academy Camp # 2 Report
This past weekend was full of activity for the 2008 corps in its second full rehearsal camp of the year. The brass and percussion members of the corps assembled at the Tempe Sports Complex and rehearsed right next door to the New York Giants football team who was also preparing for the Super Bowl game at the neighboring Cardinals training facility. The color guard resumes rehearsals sporadically while the winter season continues.
As with most early season weekends, much of the time was spent on physical training and further developing the technique programs for each musician. The brass section began reading through the first strains of music for their 2008 productions from the brass band piece Vienna Nights.
Sunday, many of the corps members spent their day at the Super Bowl in Glendale, AZ. Several of them were performers with the Arizona State University Sun Devil Marching Band. The band performed at pre-game as well as the halftime show with Tom Petty. Several joined up with over 400 volunteers to sell programs as a fundraiser for the organization.
3 positions in the high brass section remain open, along with one lead baritone spot. Contact Mark Richardson at mark@arizonaacademy.org if you are interested in auditioning.
