Their wealth of experience, dedication to excellence, and passion for the marching arts make them the perfect duo to lead our corps to new heights.
Andrew Gregory: A Leader in Music Education and Design
Andrew Gregory, a native of upstate South Carolina, brings a dynamic blend of performance and teaching experience to his role as Caption Head. A graduate of Boiling Springs High School and the University of South Carolina, Andrew’s journey in the drum corps activity began as a member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from 2012 to 2015.
As an educator and designer, Andrew has achieved success across various circuits, including Bands of America, Winter Guard International, Drum Corps International, and local scholastic circuits. His contributions to The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps as the Assistant Visual Caption Head in 2023 showcased his commitment to excellence.
Andrew’s impact extends beyond the drum corps arena. Since 2020, he has served as the Assistant Band Director at TL Hanna High School in Anderson, SC. Under his leadership, the marching and concert bands have achieved remarkable success, including the school’s first State Championship in 2023.
In addition to his role at TL Hanna, Andrew dedicates his weekends to Civitas Independent, where he serves as Visual Caption Head, Program Coordinator, and Co-Director. His passion for music education and design is truly inspiring.
Robert Peterson: A Visionary in Marching Arts Education
Joining Andrew Gregory as Co-Caption Head is Robert Peterson, a marching arts visual educator and drill writer based in Mesa, Arizona. With a Bachelor of Science in Education (Music Education) from Seton Hall University and a Master of Music (Performance Pedagogy) from Arizona State University, Robert brings a wealth of knowledge to his role.
Robert’s drum corps journey began with Cadets2 in 2013, followed by marching with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2014 and 2015. Transitioning to teaching after his age out, Robert has left an indelible mark on various drum corps before joining The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps in 2020.
Beyond drum corps, Robert is an accomplished bass trombone performer and educator. His work with Breakthrough Indoor, an open-class WGI Percussion ensemble, and Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Arizona, demonstrates his dedication to shaping the next generation of performers.
We are confident that the combined expertise of Andrew Gregory and Robert Peterson will elevate The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps to new artistic heights. Their passion for excellence, commitment to education, and innovative approach to design make them the perfect leaders for our corps.
