COVID-19 Safeguards

Anticipated Safeguards to Combat COVID-19

While the pandemic situation is ever-evolving, safeguards are planned and will be continually evaluated and adjusted to protect all participants.  As a part of accepting the responsibilities of membership, all participants must agree to the policies and procedures set forth (and others that may be adjusted/implemented)  that are intended to minimize risk and exposure.  Such protocols are continually evaluated as research suggests, CDC guidelines evolve, and conditions improve or degrade over time. 

Upholding a new standard of safety will require Discipline and Preparation like never before.  To give an idea of what may be required of participants this season, here are a few examples of what is currently suggested as guidelines for fulfilling a season:

Self-sequester period

A period of self-sequestration to be required prior to arriving at move-ins (currently recommended to be 7 days) where participants will need to:

  • Avoid going to restaurants, bars, parties, etc.
  • If possible, convert to 100% online learning if still in school
  • Wear mask at all times when outside of your own room
  • Maintain Social Distancing of at least 6 feet
  • Practice frequent hand washing
  • Get your (flu) influenza shot

Pre-Travel Testing – Participants will be required to get a PCR COVID-19 test, and have results at least 72 hours prior to arrival.

Frequent On-Site Testing After Arrival – At this time it is anticipated that participants will be engaged in a minimum schedule of regular testing throughout the summer experience.  Expenses to be covered by the corps.

If a vaccine for COVID-19 becomes available to participants prior to move-in, it would be a requirement to participate. Exceptions would include health reasons with Doctor certification as to why the vaccine could not be taken, or if the participant has a disability covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that prevents them from taking the vaccine.

In order to maintain a protected environment, it is recommended at this time that all participants refrain from close interaction with anyone outside of the corps.  That includes participants from another organization, friends and family visiting at rehearsals, show sites, etc.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

At this time it is recommended that mask wearing be implemented nearly all of the time. This is currently the recommendation even if the corps has been vaccinated.

Other protocols

A multitude of other small but significant protocols and procedures can be expected to be employed throughout the experience in order to maintain the safest environment possible while the threat of COVID-19 is still at play, including:

  • Sleeping arrangements
  • Shower Scheduling
  • Bus seating/room assignments
  • Food service
  • PBJ station/drinks
  • Frequent hand washing
  • Sanitation of equipment/vehicles
  • et. al.
